Description	Das lithostratigraphische Lexikon „LithoLex“ ist eine Datenbank, in der die lithostratigraphischen Einheiten Deutschlands erfasst und im Internet der Öffentlichkeit zur Verfügung gestellt werden. LithoLex ist das Ergebnis der Zusammenarbeit zwischen der Deutschen Stratigraphischen Kommission (DSK) und der Bundesanstalt für Geowissenschaften und Rohstoffe (BGR). Die DSK und ihre Subkommissionen liefern die fachlichen Inhalte, wie die Definitionen und Beschreibungen von lithostratigraphischen Einheiten, während die Bereitstellung dieser Geoinformationen sowie die Pflege der Datenbank durch die BGR erfolgt. The lithostratigraphic lexicon "LithoLex" is a dynamic database that comprises all defined lithostratigraphic units of Germany and makes them accessible to the public via a web interface. LithoLex is a joint-venture of the German Stratigraphic Commission (Deutsche Stratigraphische Kommission - DSK) and the Federal Institute of Geosciences and Natural Resources (BGR). The DSK and its subcommissions are providing the content, i.e. definitions and descriptions of the lithostratigraphic units, whereas the BGR is in charge of maintaining the database and providing these geoinformation to the public.

Provenance	LithoLex ging erstmalig am 07. August 2006 online und umfasste anfangs einen Datenbestand von 80 Einheiten aus der Kreide und dem Känozoikum. Aktuell (Juli 2020) sind bereits 814 Einheiten verfügbar, die vom Proterozoikum bis ins Quartär reichen. Ziel ist es zukünftig alle 1290 Einheiten, die in der „Stratigraphischen Tabelle von Deutschland 2016“ genannt werden, in LithoLex wiederzufinden.
